Jasper MCP server

Jasper speaks the Model Context Protocol, so AI tools such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, claude.ai, Cursor and VS Code can use Jasper as you: read and send chat messages, track time, request leave, manage calendar events and ClickUp tasks, work shared inboxes, and ask the Jasper assistant.

  • Endpoint: https://heyjasper.ai/mcp (Streamable HTTP, JSON responses)
  • Auth: OAuth 2.1 (browser sign-in) or a personal access token (Authorization: Bearer …)
  • Tools: 76, listed in the tool reference below

Every tool calls the same /api/v1 endpoint the desktop app uses, with your token. It sees only what you can see in your current organisation, and each tool is subject to the same permissions, IP allowlist, scopes and rate limits as the API.

Connect

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http jasper https://heyjasper.ai/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, pick jasper and choose Authenticate. A browser window asks you to approve access. To use a personal access token instead:

claude mcp add --transport http jasper https://heyjasper.ai/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

Open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it Jasper and enter https://heyjasper.ai/mcp. Click Connect and approve access in the browser.

Cursor

Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or the project's .cursor/mcp.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "jasper": { "url": "https://heyjasper.ai/mcp" }
  }
}

Cursor opens the browser to sign in. With a token, add "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" }.

VS Code and other clients

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP works. Use https://heyjasper.ai/mcp as the URL; clients that support MCP OAuth discover everything from the server, others need the Authorization: Bearer header.

Authentication

OAuth (recommended)

The server follows the MCP authorization spec:

  1. A request without a token gets 401 with WWW-Authenticate: Bearer resource_metadata="https://heyjasper.ai/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp".
  2. The client reads the protected resource metadata and the authorization server metadata.
  3. It registers itself at https://heyjasper.ai/oauth/register (dynamic client registration; public client, PKCE S256 required). Redirects are limited to claude.ai, claude.com, chatgpt.com, vscode.dev, localhost and the cursor:// app scheme. Registered apps can only ever be granted the scopes marked "Offered to OAuth apps" below.
  4. You sign in to Jasper and approve the consent screen, which names the app and where the approval is sent.

Personal access token

For scripts and clients without OAuth, create a token under Personal settings → Personal API Tokens. Tick mcp:use plus the scopes of the tools you want (see below), choose an expiry, and copy the token — it is shown once.

Revoking access

Personal settings → Personal API Tokens lists both your personal tokens and apps you approved with OAuth. Revoke any of them there; the MCP client loses access immediately (its refresh token is revoked too).

Scopes

A token needs mcp:use to reach the server at all. Each tool additionally needs its area scope, and tools/list only shows the tools your token can use.

Scope Unlocks Offered to OAuth apps
messenger:read list_conversations, read_messages, search_messages, get_thread, list_threads, list_pinned_messages, list_shared_inboxes, list_shared_inbox_threads, list_calls, list_call_recordings, translate_text, list_online_members, get_presence, get_status yes
messenger:write send_message, reply_in_thread, add_reaction, open_direct_message, delete_message, update_shared_inbox_thread, comment_on_shared_inbox_thread, reply_to_shared_inbox_thread, set_status yes
time-tracking:read get_current_timer, list_time_entries, get_today_time_entries, get_time_summary, list_clients, list_projects, list_project_tasks, get_leave_overview, list_calendars, list_calendar_events, list_my_tasks, get_task, list_task_spaces, list_task_lists yes
time-tracking:write start_timer, stop_timer, log_time, update_time_entry, delete_time_entry, request_leave, cancel_leave_request, approve_leave_request, reject_leave_request, create_calendar_event, update_calendar_event, delete_calendar_event, rsvp_calendar_event, comment_on_task, update_task, create_task yes
tasks:read list_my_jasper_tasks, get_jasper_task, list_jasper_task_comments, get_jasper_task_structure yes
tasks:write comment_on_jasper_task, update_jasper_task, create_jasper_task yes
mcp:use alone list_notifications, mark_notification_read, mark_all_notifications_read, get_me yes
mail:token list_scheduled_emails, cancel_scheduled_email no — personal token only
mail:read list_mail_folders, list_mail_threads, search_mail, read_mail_message yes
chat:write ask_jasper yes
organization:read list_members yes
documents:read documents_requests, documents_show yes
documents:write documents_suggest, documents_open yes

The tasks:read and tasks:write tools also work with time-tracking:read and time-tracking:write, which tokens made before them hold.

mail:token is never offered to OAuth apps because it can also mint access tokens for your connected Google mailbox; to use the scheduled-email tools, create a personal token with it.

mail:read lets your own AI app read your own mailboxes, read-only. Its tools answer only after you switch on Allow my AI assistant to read my mail under Personal settings → AI assistant. A connection that has mail access is read-only overall: write tools and tools that reach outside Jasper (sending, calendar invitations, ClickUp) are not offered to it, so connect a second app without mail access for those. They never reach shared inboxes or anyone else's mail, leave your bin and spam out unless asked for that folder by name, can't send, delete or change anything, are rate-limited (30 a minute, 1,000 a day), and every call is listed on that page. Switching it off signs out every app that holds mail:read. If you connected an app before switching it on, reconnect it so it asks for mail access.

Your organisation must have API access enabled (it is for Shakewell).

Calling a tool

Requests are JSON-RPC 2.0 over POST https://heyjasper.ai/mcp:

curl -s https://heyjasper.ai/mcp \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Accept: application/json, text/event-stream" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"get_time_summary","arguments":{}}}'

Results come back as structuredContent (the API's data payload) with the same JSON as text for clients that only read text:

{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"result":{"content":[{"type":"text","text":"{\"today\":{\"seconds\":12600,\"formatted\":\"3h 30m\"},\"week\":{\"seconds\":99000,\"formatted\":\"27h 30m\"},\"has_running_timer\":true}"}],"isError":false,"structuredContent":{"today":{"seconds":12600,"formatted":"3h 30m"},"week":{"seconds":99000,"formatted":"27h 30m"},"has_running_timer":true}}}

When the API refuses a call (validation, permission, not found), the result has isError: true and the text says why, e.g. Jasper API error 422: The end time field must be a date after start time. {"end_time":["The end time field must be a date after start time."]}.

Hints on each tool follow the MCP spec: readOnlyHint for reads; writes set destructiveHint — true means the action cannot be undone (deleting, rejecting, sending email), so good clients ask you before running it. openWorldHint marks tools that reach outside Jasper (ClickUp, calendar invitations, outgoing email).

Rate limits

  • 120 MCP requests per minute per user.
  • Each tool call also counts against the regular API limits of the endpoint it wraps (for example 30 translations per minute, 30 shared-inbox replies per minute).
  • ask_jasper uses AI credits and can take up to 3 minutes.

A limited request returns HTTP 429; wait and retry.

Security notes

  • Tools act as you, with your permissions — nothing more. Approving a client is like handing it your session for the scopes you grant, so only connect clients you trust and grant the smallest scopes that do the job.
  • Writes made through the MCP server are recorded in the audit log under AI tools (MCP), and every tool call is logged like any other API request.
  • Tools marked destructive cannot be undone. Keep your client's "ask before running" setting on for them.
  • Personal access tokens from Personal settings last 30, 90 or 365 days; CLI and VS Code logins last 90 days. Revoke tokens you no longer use.
  • Personal mail is read-only: once you turn on AI access to your mail (it is off by default), tools can list your folders and search and read your messages. They cannot send from your personal mailbox. Shared inboxes and scheduled sends have their own tools.
  • Call tools return metadata only; recordings' audio and video are never exposed.
